“It is a collection of words classified and arranged by their meanings". The Bunrui Goihyo (first published in 1964; out of print) has been widely used as one of the major thesauri of contemporary Japanese. We have recently published a new expanded version of the Bunrui Goihyo. In addition, we have built a database based on the Bunrui Goihyo for use in research and development of Japanese research.

This database version was built by incorporating the contents of the Bunrui Goihyo book edition (revised and enlarged edition). It is made in CSV file format to enable uploading into data organization softwares. The total number of records is 101,070.

Each record contains the following fields:

record ID number / lemma number / type of record / class / division / section / article / article number / paragraph number / small paragraph number / word number / lemma with explanatory note/ lemma without explanatory note/ reading / reverse reading

To get access to the “Bunrui Goihyo database (revised and enlarged edition), users need to contract the license agreement.

There are three payment methods according to usages. This database is designated for academic purposes. Please contact us in advance for commercial usage.

Unit of licensing

General access: a single installation on a single computer as one unit.

Student: a single installation on a single computer as one unit.A proof of student identity required (A photocopy of your student card).

Group: a single installation on ten computers as one unit.

Licensing fee (per one unit)

General access: ¥31,500

Student: ¥10,500

Group: ¥105,000

These fees include postage and handling (domestic only) as well as the consumption tax.

We only accept payments by bank transfer.Please note that the licensing fees are not inclusive of any bank transfer fees charged by your bank.

This database is provided through electronic media only.Please purchase the printed version in bookstores near you.

Application methods

By an e-mail

1. Copy the “Bunrui Goihyo (revised and enlarged edition) database application form" below directly onto the body text of an e-mail.Do not attach the file.

2. Send the e-mail with form filled-in, to the address below.

3. Two copies of the contract and a tax invoice will be sent to you.Please sign and return the contract and make the payment by the bank transfer.

4. A copy of the database file will be sent to you when the signed contract is received and the payment is confirmed.

By fax
